photog friend!

yesterday we had lunch & coffee
with an old friend of mine from harrisonburg,

besides
being a fabulous (dog) person
and having a deep spiritual conversation with h
on their first day meeting (so sorry r!),
and nearly getting stuck in richmond,
she is a fabulous photographer!

i hope she doesn't hate me for reposting
the picture above from a wedding she did on saturday.
but it is beautiful and i love it.
all of her pictures,
even the traditional posed ones,
seem like she has captured some candid moment in time,
some conversation
or laughs
or smirks.

check her out at her website:
or her blog:

i really hope she gets snowed in
in richmond again soon.

xmas 2k9.

i sent out my christmas cards monday.

i thought it would be cheaper to get them done on etsy
and print them at ritz camera
and buy envelopes from staples.
bad idea.
next time, i'd rather just do them on minted
but i thought i was running out of time.

i won't even go into the fact that i couldn't find a single picture i liked.
we took 84 thousand.
h & v were tired of me.
so i just picked an older one.

i was so exhausted from trying to do it myself
i just sent them out
there is no personalized message.
my apologies.
i do love you all dearly.
i just wanted them to be over with!

but they did turn out lovely.
thank you krysta.

impressed.

one of my high school friends is visiting for the week, and after i let him borrow my computer on a walk around richmond, this is what i found... completely un-edited, wonderful pictures of the city of richmond from the eyes of someone who hasn't seen the city in 9+ years... i love it. (although i wouldn't expect anything less from him.)

april showers bring may flowers.

sorry for the delay--work has been crazy busy and there have been weddings galore! this weekend was absolutely amazing. one of those weekends that goes by so fast that you forgot you didn't take any pictures (shame)!

first i had a hot date at comfort in downtown richmond. it's everything it appears to be & more. great beer (i was drunk off a bell's oberon & a german canned beer that was wonderful). you choose your meat (i got pork tenderloin & h got mahi, but they had everything from fish to fried quail to venison), and then your sides! i tried thier braised greens, a little spicy for my liking, but everything looked good. the best part was we got to sit right in the front on the corner of broad & jefferson and watch the people go by. i felt like the world was flying by--so many people were out b/c the weather was beautiful and it was first fridays. followed by my first game of kings (i'm not very good at it) & me falling asleep mid-conversation w/ h's housemate ( :

saturday we ran errands, i gave h a mohawk, and then buzzed it all off & we got ready for j's wedding. she's a great friend of mine since grade school, so it was almost surreal to see her get married! she was a beautiful bride!

sunday was h's football game where v tried her hardest to run into the field as they were playing. i'm just glad we didn't get kicked out for v crying so loud! then we went to h's dad's for some smoked chicken & i met the cutest yorkie-poo ever, izzy! then we ran home to watch slumdog millionaire with some friends at the byrd.
now it's half-way thru the week! hopefully the weather will hold out for el's bday camping trip on friday. we have lots to celebrate!! ( ;

oh to be seven.

this weekend was absolutely phenomenal. i know i say that after every camp, and i really do mean it, but, whew. working with the itty bitties #1, puts things into perspective, and #2, wears you out!

when i called my little buddy (all 52 pounds of her) on wednesday, i cried. a small, fragile voice picked up the phone, answered my questions politely (yes, she was excited; and yes, she was nervous, and was she going to sleep outside?). my heart broke for her. this was a seven-year-old girl who had lost her everything- her mom- just a few months ago, moved to a new house with her aunt & uncle, started at a new school, no longer had her "fun summer" of playing with mom and doing any 'ole thing. her uncle told me that he was worried she wouldn't talk to the other kids, let alone share her story with anyone. she started out shy, but by the morning of day two, you couldn't peel her off of me if you tried, she continuously posed as america's next top model for all the cameras, and she wouldn't stop talking and creating nicknames for everyone. she even sang every karaoke song they'd let her up there for. we really did have a blast.

but still, my heart ached. this girl was seven; only a few months had passed, and she was already afraid of losing her memories. as i was walking back from the staff meeting on saturday, h and i talked about the strength of our itty bitties and mentioned he had no idea what it would have been like to be me- to have experienced a loss so young in life. i fought back tears as i walked inside and my little buddy ran to me and threw her arms around my neck like she hadn't seen me in years. as we walked back to the cabin, she had her arm wrapped tightly around my waist, wrapping tighter as we walked further. she was excited about her new friends and heat lightening and eating s'mores.

when her aunt & uncle dropped her off, i remember thinking what a blessing camp was going to be for her. when they came to pick her up, i realized i what a blessing she had been to me that weekend. what a blessing she was in my life.
